You walk into a store; you stare at what seems to be a mile long aisle full of hair products. How do you know what mango papaya rhubarb scented concoction is right for your straight, coarse, color treated hair? If trying every product doesn’t sound like a good time to you, continue reading to learn how to pick products meant for your specific hair type.
Step 1: Determining your hair type
Is your hair light like feathers dancing in the wind or coarse like the voice of a sailor? Determining your basic hair type is relatively easy. If your hair lays flat against your head and fights all attempts to give it volume, you have fine hair. On the other hand, if your hair seems to grow 5x in size as it dries, your crown is coarse. Now that you know your strand type, take a look in the mirror. Do you see straight strands, kinky curls, or wicked waves? Now that you know what you’re working with, it’s time to find out how to make that work easier!
Step 2: Size Matters!
In this case, the size we’re talking about is actually the amount of product you put in your hair. With fine hair you want to use a minimal amount of product, or in most cases, a dime size amount. No matter what product you’re using, fine hair is easily weighed down and will end up looking limp/flat with too much product in it. With coarse hair you can use more product or a quarter size amount. Because coarse hair is usually caused by dryness, if the product you’re using is moisturizing (and it should be) you can use even more to get the desired results.
Fine/Dry hair – Apply Medusa Hair Oil to your strands (remember, 1-2 drops only) to moisturize and strengthen your hair without weighing it down.
Coarse/Dry hair – Start in your shower with the Medusa Hair Mask. For deeper conditioning leave mask on for 10 minutes before rinsing, making sure to massage thoroughly into hair.. After your shower, apply 3-4 drops of Medusa Hair Oil to your strands for deeper moisturizing and increased strength, then style as usual. After styling, for added shine, apply a few drops of Medusa Hair Oil to just the ends.
Step 3: Straighten Up!
Okay, straight stranded ladies and gents; it’s time to boost those roots! One of the biggest issues with straight hair is that it can often appear limp and lackluster, but not anymore! Use our handy Buildup Be Gone Bar to remove all traces of product from your scalp and hair. This will let your hair feel lighter and have more body because there isn’t anything holding it down. If you want more impact, apply a small amount of our Beach Bum Texturizing cream only at your roots. This will provide more volume without adding weight.
Step 4: Wave Goodbye to Boring Hair!
It’s time for you wavy babes to bring out your hairs full potential. The easiest way to give your waves volume, definition, and texture is to apply our Beach Bum Texturizing cream from scalp to tips. For easy application, take a nickel size amount and rub it between your palms and fingers. Starting at your roots, work the product throughout your hair in a scrunching motion.. You’ll notice bolder, more defined waves right away. If you need a boost throughout the day, turn your head over and use your fingers to scrunch your hair at the roots. This will reactivate the Beach Bum and give you instant impact!
Step 5: You Go Curl!
Bring out the best in your curls with Medusa Hair Oil. Apply 3-5 drops into your palm and rub between hands. Once hands are evenly coated, gently work through hair starting at your roots. This will bring out definition in your curls while providing shine, moisturize, and increased strength. If your curls are getting too big for their britches, apply a dime size amount of Instant Blowout between your palms and gently work through hair. This will deduce volume without sacrificing shine and style.
Step 6: Let Your True Colors Shine!
Whether your true hair color is brown, black. Blonde, or pink with a light dusting of neon green, it is time to make the most of your color! To keep your color looking vibrant longer, start with Hair Buildup Be Gone in your shower. By completely removing all buildup and excess oils, this bar will allow you to go longer between washes so your color stays brighter, bolder, and better! If you notice your color is looking faded it’s time to bring in the Medusa hair team. Combine the Medusa Hair Mask with your conditioner to provide a healthy boost and then apply the Medusa Hair Oil to enhance your color while boosting strength and shine!
